Q.  I don't speak English.  Will the dispatcher be able to speak to me and take my information?
A.  Yes.  The dispatcher has access to a language line which provides translation services in over 125 languages. 

Q.  Can people who are hearing impaired call 9-1-1?
A.  Yes.  9-1-1 is available through text telephones known as TTYs or TDDs for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability.

In Case of Emergency

IF YOU NEED IMMEDIATE POLICE, FIRE OR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE,

ALWAYS DIAL 9-1-1

Stay Calm. Tell the operator your name, location, and describe the nature of your emergency.

Listen Carefully to the 9-1-1 Operator.

Speak clearly and slowly and answer the 9-1-1 Operator's questions as accurately as possible.

WHEN CALLING 9-1-1 PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION

Give the emergency service operator as much of the following information as necessary under the circumstances:

THE LOCATION OF THE EMERGENCY
This is the most important information you can provide to the dispatcher. Try being as specific as possible

Specify the TYPE OF EMERGENCY
Law Enforcement
Fire
Medical

WHAT IS THE EMERGENCY
A crime has or is about to occur
A robbery is in progress
A house is burning
A person is unconscious
A traffic accident with major injuries

IF WEAPONS ARE INVOLVED
A hand gun
Automatic weapons
Knives
Advise emergency services that they have been or are being used

NUMBER OF PERSONS INVOLVED
To the best of your knowledge advise as to the total number of people involved in an accident; suspects in a robbery; etc.

OBSTACLES OR CONDITIONS
Any condition that will or could prevent law enforcement, fire, or paramedics from rendering service:
The sick or injured person is locked in a house with a vicious dog on the premises.
The injured person can only be reached by helicopter.

KEEP YOUR INFORMATION FACTUAL
Do not exaggerate the situation. However, never be afraid to state the truthfulness or seriousness of the emergency

FOLLOW EMERGENCY SERVICES INSTRUCTIONS....
Do exactly as emergency services tells you during the course of the call.

Give them all the information or other assistance they request under the circumstances.
NEVER HANG UP ON 9-1-1 unless you are told to do so.
DO WHAT THEY TELL YOU - carefully listen to their instructions. Remember, your assistance could mean the difference between life, death, or serious injury.
