New Emergency Alert System from the City of Newberg
(NEWBERG, OR) – To ensure community members are informed during times of an emergency, the City of Newberg is encouraging residents to sign-up for emergency alerts through their new Everbridge system. Residents who sign-up will be alerted and receive critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons, evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods, and other public safety situations. Residents can sign up at www.NewbergOregon.gov/emergency-alerts
When signing up, residents will be able to select where they would like to receive time-sensitive information including on a home phone, a cell phone, email address, by text message, and more. The new alert system replaces the City’s previous CodeRed alert system. The change allows the City to partner more closely with Yamhill County and the State of Oregon who also utilizes Everbridge in their emergency communications.
Newberg-Dundee Police Chief Jeff Kosmicki said of the new system, “The alert system will allow our local agencies including our 9-1-1 dispatch center to quickly communicate with residents and community members in case of an emergency within the Cities of Newberg or Dundee.” Both last year’s Chehalem Mountain-Bald Peak Wildfire and the recent gas leaks in Newberg are examples of events where the City could utilize this new emergency alert system to ensure the safety of residents within those neighborhoods.
Community members can sign up for notifications now at www.NewbergOregon.gov/emergency-alerts.
