Jeff Kosmicki

(NEWBERG, OR) – The City of Newberg is pleased to announce that Jeff Kosmicki has been selected to serve as Police Chief for the Newberg-Dundee Police Department.

Kosmicki started his public safety career 24 years ago as a Patrol Officer with the Newberg-Dundee Police Department and has served multiple roles within the department. Through the course of his career, Kosmicki has served as a Police Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. He has also served as the Interim Chief of Police for the department since April 2020.

The Newberg Chief of Police leads the activities of the Newberg-Dundee Police Department in the areas of law enforcement, protection of life and property, criminal investigation, and emergency communication services. The position also provides leadership through planning, organizing, directing, and supervising all department activities to achieve defined goals and implements new programs and policies to better serve the community.

Kosmicki is very familiar with Newberg and Dundee, graduating from George Fox University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and living in the community since. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and is a certified police officer with an executive level certification from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).

Since taking on the Interim Chief role, Kosmicki has been instrumental in initiating a new Peer Support Program that will support police staff mental health, handling COVID-19 response, and pivoting engagement programs such as “Shop with a Cop” to ensure they continued throughout the pandemic.

Thirteen individuals applied for the Newberg-Dundee Police Chief through a nationwide recruitment conducted on the City’s behalf by the Novak Consulting Group. Newberg City Manager Dan Weinheimer said of Kosmicki, “Jeff demonstrated both through the interview process and the last 14 months that he is the right person to serve as Chief. His humility, knowledge of the communities’ needs, and strong support among the NDPD staff stand out. I look forward to working with him in transforming public safety in Newberg and Dundee through community involvement, use of new tools like body worn cameras, and a focus on data-driven decision-making.”

Jeff Kosmicki commented on his new position stating, “I want to thank City Manager Weinheimer for offering me the Chief position. Serving as the interim Chief the past 14 months has given me the opportunity to more closely understand the position within the organization and the community at large. I am humbled to have received such an outpouring of support from residents, city leaders, business owners, partner agencies and of course, from the men and women I have served alongside with at NDPD for 24 years. I want to build on past successes by continuing to open doors with community members. There is always room to listen, to grow, and improve. I look forward to this next chapter and am excited for the possibilities as we work together to build a safer community for everyone.”

Kosmicki, who was serving as the interim Police Chief, will begin his work as the Newberg-Dundee Police Chief immediately.
