2024 Elections

The 2024 General Election will be held November 5, 2024. In Newberg, three Councilors will be elected to the Newberg City Council. Terms of office for Elise Yarnell-Hollamon (District 1), Molly Olson (District 3), Mike McBride (District 5) will expire on December 31, 2024.

Candidate requirements: Candidates must be registered voters in the state of Oregon and have lived in the City of Newberg for 12 months immediately preceding the election. Candidates for Councilor positions must also reside in the district where they are running for office. 

A link to the City's District map is available online at https://www.newbergoregon.gov/citycouncil. To determine which district you reside in, type in your address. 

If you are interested in running for office, the first day to submit candidate filing documents is June 5, 2024 and the last day is August 17, 2024 (set by Newberg Municiple Code 2.05.060A). Please note, Newberg Municiple Code sets a filing date that is ahead of the county wide filing date. This gives staff time to ensure the completeness and accuracy of all documents ahead of the county filing date.

To run for office in Newberg, residents can either: 

                           A) File a declaration of candidacy (SEL 101) and a petition (SEL 121) and collect 25 signatures of                                         qualified, legal voters of the City of Newberg, Yamhill County, Oregon or

                            B) File a declaration of candidacy (SEL 101) and pay a $25 filing fee.

While filings are collected by the City Elections Officer (City Recorder), Yamhill County conducts the election. The City is also bound by Oregon Election Law as administered by the Secretary of State.
