Scam Alert! Email Phishing Scam Targeting Short Term Rental Owners

Overlay
Our Community Development Department has been made aware of a scam targeting short-term rental owners in our area. Fraudulent emails are being sent out that look like they are from the City regarding short-term rental permits. See the attached screenshot for an example.

IMPORTANT:
  • This is NOT from the City of Newberg.
  • Any legitimate notifications regarding fees or permits will come through the City’s OpenGov platform (linked directly to your account) or via official mail.
If you receive suspicious looking electronic communication like a text or email claiming to be the City, please:
  • Do NOT open any attachments.
  • Report it to the City Planning Department immediately.
    • Email: Planning@newbergoregon.gov
    • Call: City Hall at 503-537-1240
For further verification, you can always log in to the City of Newberg OpenGov system to check your account status.

We know this is causing confusion, especially since we recently sent out official notifications about changes to short-term rental codes. If you’re in compliance, there’s no need to worry!
Stay vigilant and help spread the word!
