Why is my water an odd color?
Newberg, OR | February 29, 2024
Some complaints have been received over the last day about a yellow tinge to tap water, especially on the southeastern side of Newberg near Wynooski and Springbrook. The Water Treatment Plant has provided a statement on this problem, citing a slightly higher amount of iron in the water as the cause for slight discoloration, with no conerns around adverse health effects. See their statement below.
"The problem most likely was caused by a filter that failed to backwash when it should have causing some extra iron to be sent out into the system. There is no health concern as iron is a secondary contaminant with only color issues, no health issues, the problem was resolved on Tuesday and the water should be clearing up quickly."
If you continue to notice an odd color after a day or two please call the Water Treatment Plant at 503-537-1239 to let them know.
Sometimes water color, quality, or taste can be caused by other issues localized to your home's water system. Check out this page to learn more about what might cause these issues: https://www.newbergoregon.gov/operations/page/how-do-i-report-sudden-cha...
