Newberg welcomes new Community Development Director
Newberg welcomes Mr. Doug Rux as the City's first Community Development Director. He began work February 23 and will be introduced to the City Council and community on Monday, March 2nd at 6:00 p.m. during the Council's work session. Council meetings are held in the Public Safety Building at 401 East First Street. Doug has more than 30 years of experience in local government agencies, focusing on planning, economic development and urban renewal. He attended Oregon State University and has a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning.
His early planning experience began in Douglas and Lane County agencies, followed by a decade in planning (current and long range) at the City of Tualatin. In the mid-90's he was promoted to Economic Development Manager followed by another promotion to Community Development Director, the position he held until 2010. During this time he supervised the Planning and Economic Development Divisions.
After leaving Tualatin he was a private consultant until hired by the City of Salem. He has a real estate division and handles all economic development issues for Salem, which consists of seven different urban renewal districts, as well as the airport, housing authority and a variety of federal programs. His knowledge of the issues in his field far exceed the region and extend statewide. His working relationships with other leaders (private and public) in his field are well established and will be of a tremendous value to Newberg. He has many years of supervisory experience which will be needed in the restructuring of the functions of the Community Development department.
His background in Douglas, Lane, and Marion counties coupled with the experiences in the metro area give him a well-rounded palette from which to draw from when establishing working relationships with Newberg community members and Yamhill County officials.
