Council selects Will Worthey as permanent City Manager
Newberg City Council selected Will Worthey as their permanent City Manager on May 18. Worthey had been serving as the interim City Manager since November. He had served as the former Library Director for three years.
Mr. Worthey said his decision to accept the position came from the employees who encouraged him to help the City.
“I was asked by countless city staff while Interim City Manager to step up to try to solve the city's chronic turnover issues, issues that have caused so much consternation and “whiplash” to city operations over at last 11 years.”
He will lead a workforce of 152 employees who deliver municipal services including water, sewer, streets, police, and more. But his heart will always belong to the Library.
“To be clear I am a librarian and will always say “I am a librarian working as a city administrator.” This gives me a customer-service edge that others in this field of endeavor clearly lack. I promise that I will work hard for our community every day.”
Newberg Municipal Judge Larry Blake Jr. will conduct the oath of office for City Manager Worthey at the June 6 City Council meeting at 6:00 p.m. Council meetings are held at the Public Safety Building, 401 E. Third Street.
Mr. Worthey’s background includes a bachelor’s degree in Medieval History, a Master’s degree in Library Science, and service in the Scottish Highland Division. He resides in Newberg along with his wife Alyssa, and two dogs.
