Microclor On demand dose disinfection system

This project is now complete: May 15, 2018

System: PSI Microclor Hypochlorite Generation System

Contactor: Whitney Manufacturing

The Water Treatment Plant upgrade of the disinfection system: On Demand Hypochlorite Generation System.

Benefits:

  •   Replacement of older system
  •   Modular design allows maintenance/repairs without full system shut down
  •   Lower cost for chemicals and energy
  •   Redundancy with Wastewater Plant system streamlines parts inventory, staff training and maintenance costs

About the system:

The system 1% hypochlorite disinfection system utilizing a brine solution passed through electrical currents.  The hypochlorite is then stored in tanks on site and dosed (released) into water as needed or "on demand".

Hypochlorite is stable to store, low risk to staff and the environment compared to chlorine gas. It is a modular system that easily allows for repairs and maintenance without taking the system off line. Parts are easily accessible from multiple vendors.

This is safer for the facility, the public and a more efficient method of creating /using disinfection in our water treatment process. A similar system was installed at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in 2016 and has been successful.
