The Evidence Division is responsible for the receipt, storage, safekeeping, release and disposal of all property or evidence that comes under the control of the Newberg-Dundee Police Department.
Items of found property turned into the Newberg-Dundee Police Department are held for 90 days before disposal. Every effort is made to return found property to its owner. If, however, no owner if found or property is unclaimed, found property will be disposed of as allowed by City Code §32..pdf (49 KB)
If your property has been lost or stolen, you should file a report with the police as soon as possible. Include in the report, any serial numbers or personal identification numbers for the lost or stolen item(s).
If your bicycle is lost or stolen, you should file a report with the police department. Bicycles are probably the most common items submitted as Found Property. Providing the serial number will help the police department get your bicycle returned to you. We would recommend that you make a record of the serial number and physical description of your bike AND license it with the City of Newberg at the Police Department lobby. Every effort is made to compare the reports of lost/stolen bikes to recovered bikes in an effort to identify the owners.
Bikes can be viewed through the chain link fence on Blaine Street side of the police Department.
Found Property is held for a period of 90 days unless it is claimed by the owner.
Safekeeping Property can be held for 60 days.
For all evidence held in which a person has been arrested/cited, we must receive a District Attorney confirmation that the case is closed on all defendants. In some cases, the District Attorney may not release items immediately pending further investigation or appeals, or the statute of limitations has expired. Statutes of limitations vary depending on the seriousness of the crime. Additionally, some items can be released pursuant to a court order or authorization from the District Attorney.

Property is released by appointment only to the legal owner of the property. Legal picture I.D. will be required at the time of the release (driver’s license, state identification card, military I.D. or passport).
Property which remains unclaimed by a legal owner is sent to public auction or other City Code approved disposal option, the proceeds of which are deposited into the City’s General Fund.
Once it is determined that a firearm is no longer needed as evidence the legal owner will be notified. The owner then may make an appointment to pick up the firearm, after providing appropriate identification.
