Consul General Yuzo Yoshioka visits with Newberg Mayor Bill Rosacker
On Thursday, July 13th the City of Newberg was honored by a visit from Consul General Yuzo Yoshioka and Consul Naoto Shigehisa who represent the Consular Office of Japan in Portland.
Consul General Yoshioka has been traveling throughout Oregon to get to know our beautiful state and to meet officials in cities throughout. He arrived in March of this year. You can read his official greeting here: https://www.portland.us.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_ja/11_000001_00306.html
City staff and representatives from Newberg's City Council hosted a meeting over lunch to discuss the relationship that the Consular Office of Japan has to Oregon. Members of local Japanese-owned businesses were also invited, including representatives from Ushio America, Inc. and St. Cousair, Inc., as well as Chehalem Valley Chamber Executive Director Scott Parker and Taste Newberg Board President Dennis Lewis. Representatives also received a tour of City Hall and the Public Safety Building.
The discussion also turned to Newberg's sister city in Japan, Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture. Some may remember this location by its previous name, Wadayama, when the relationship was established in 2000. Learn more about this partnership on our website.

It was a great privilege to host this meeting and we hope this is only the beginning of stronger cultural connections for our community!
