The Newberg Emergency Center is well equipped with HAM Radio Equipment for reliable communication during disasters.  Amateur Radio operators (aka: Ham Radio) transmit using signals that reach long distances.  When cellular phones, landlines, and internet connections fail - Amateur Radio Operators will be our link to outside resources.    We Partner with volunteers from Yamhill County Amateur Radio Team. (https://ycares.org)

During Hurricane Ian September 2022, Amateur Radio technicians in Florida relayed information directly to Emergency Response centers about stranded people, washed out bridges, fires, flooding, and power outages.   Click here to read more about how Amateur radio works and why its reliable during emergencies.

All communities need trained licensed radio operators using equipment as simple as HT Handheld units from home or volunteering with a County ARES Team to support their community communication center. We encourage all ages to learn about Ham Radio.
