Yamhill County Transit Announces Service and Fare Changes This Fall

Yamhill County Transit (YCT) is planning a series of service and fare changes designed to keep the system running strong as costs continue to rise and funding tightens. The changes are expected to go before the YCT Board of Commissioners this fall, with implementation anticipated in September 2026 if approved.

Why the changes?
The cost of fuel, labor, insurance, buses, and basic materials has doubled in recent years, and that trend shows no sign of slowing. At the same time, federal, state, and local revenue has stayed flat or declined. To keep service reliable, YCT is adjusting both its routes and its fare structure.
What's changing with routes and service
The service adjustments focus on three main areas:
Improved McMinnville Local Service will offer more direct trips, cutting down travel times and expanding access to schools and neighborhoods across the city.
A new GoLocal Flex Route is coming to Newberg. This fareless route will operate up to four days a week and serve older adults, people with disabilities, and the general public. Riders can catch the scheduled route or request a pre-arranged deviation within one of four designated flex zones, giving the community more flexibility to get where they need to go. This new route will replace general public dial-a-ride service in Newberg.
Newberg's existing demand response service is being renamed GoWell. It will continue to provide dial-a-ride transportation, but remains limited to eligible riders: adults age 60 and older and people with disabilities. It is not open to the general public.
Riders currently approved for ADA Paratransit don't need to do anything. That service is being renamed Access Link, but will continue operating the same way for the community members who rely on it.
Fares are coming back
YCT is reintroducing fares and rolling out a new mobile payment option called Token Transit, which lets riders purchase and manage fares and passes directly from a smartphone. Drivers will validate fares through the app when riders board. Cash will still be accepted for single rides, though passes and reduced-fare products will only be available through the Token Transit app or participating community groups.

YCT says it's working with senior housing and social service agencies to help ensure everyone has access to affordable options, and reduced-fare products will be available for those who qualify.
