Every time you turn on your tap in Newberg, something remarkable happens. Water drawn from a natural sand and rock aquifer just south of the Willamette River travels through a treatment system, passes rigorous testing, and arrives at your faucet clean, safe, and ready to use. In 2025, we produced over 864 million gallons of drinking water with zero quality violations.
The City's 2025 Water Quality Report confirms what we work hard every day to deliver: drinking water that meets and exceeds every state and federal health standard.
But keeping that water safe isn't just our job. It's yours too. Here are three simple things every Newberg resident can do right now to keep our water safe and healthy for years to come.
Don't flush wipes (or any trash!).
Even products labeled "flushable" are not actually flushable. They're the number one cause of sewer backups in our system, and a clogged pipe can become your problem fast. The only things that belong in your toilet are the 3 P's (Pee, Poop, Paper). Everything else goes in the trash.
Protect our watershed.
Newberg's water starts in the ground, but what happens on the surface matters. Residents can help by installing a rain garden, planting native plants near streams, and never dumping anything into a storm drain. Healthy land means healthier water for all of us. Questions? Check for a backflow device.
If you have an underground irrigation system or fire suppression plumbing, you're required to have a backflow prevention device installed and tested annually. Not sure if you have one? Call the Water Treatment Plant at 503-537-1252 or email backflow@newbergoregon.gov and we'll help you find out.
