(NEWBERG, OR) – The City of Newberg is moving into the next phase of its 2026 summer pavement preservation program, with two contractors beginning work across multiple neighborhoods over the next several weeks. The projects are funded through the City’s Transportation Utility Fee (TUF), which supports ongoing investment in Newberg’s road infrastructure.
Work in Northwest Newberg is already complete, with crews having finished crack sealing in that area earlier this summer. Beginning Monday, July 6, contractor Eagle Elsner will conduct grind and inlay operations in the southern district of Newberg, and will also address soft spots on Mountainview Road ahead of slurry seal work later in the summer. This work is expected to continue through Friday, July 10. Grind and inlay is a more intensive repair technique used on roadways where surface deterioration requires removal and replacement of the existing pavement layer.
The following streets will be addressed by these repairs:• Springbrook from Haworth to Mountainview (Spot repairs ahead of full slurry seal)
• Mountainview from NE Chehalem Dr to Springbrook (Spot repairs ahead of full slurry seal)
• S Meridian between 5th and 7th streets
• 7th Street from Edwards Elementary School to River St
• S School St
• E Tenth St
• S James St
• E Michelle Ct
The following week, contractor Doolittle will perform slurry seal work on Mountainview Rd and Springbrook Rd. This will begin Tuesday, August 3 and continue through Friday, August 7. Slurry seal is a preventative maintenance treatment that extends pavement life by sealing surface cracks and restoring a protective weathering course.
Residents and drivers in affected areas should expect temporary lane restrictions and brief delays during active work hours. The City appreciates the community’s patience as these improvements are completed. Please note that adverse weather conditions (e.g. extreme heat or rain) may impact the timeline for these projects. We will aim to post updated information to our website and social media pages as it becomes available.
