Is a Permit Required
A building permit is required for residential structures over 200 square feet and 10 feet in height. A permit is required for commercial structures over 120 square feet. The structure must meet building code and development code standards. See the zoning standards matrix below for more information on setbacks and lot coverage requirements. In addition, they cannot be placed in easements or stream corridors. A mechanical permit is required for heating, cooling, or ventilation projects (installing, replacing, or altering fuel gas piping, heating, ventilation, or cooling equipment within existing buildings). A plumbing permit is required when installing, replacing, or altering water or drainage piping, including the associated fixtures in existing buildings. Electrical permit are processed through Yamhill County.

How to Apply for a Permit
Send submittals to permits@newbergoregon.gov for processing. When submitting a permit please provide the following items:
Structural (residential and commercial) and mechanical (commercial) permits require a plan review payment at submittal with the remaining fees paid once the project is approved. Payment is available online with etrakit. Effective April 1, 2022 electronic documents are required.

What is the Status of My Permit
While a permit is in the review process you may wonder who has signed off. You may view the progress of your permit online with etrakit. This will show which departments have signed off and who is still reviewing or if additional information is required to continue the review.
