City of Newberg's Annual Water Main Flushing Program
City of Newberg is resuming its annual complete water main flushing program. This enhances our drinking water system by improving water clarity and taste. Flushing of the water mains will be done by Public Works Maintenance crews utilizing fire hydrants and blow-offs on dead end lines. During the flushing, large amounts of water is released from the flushing points, into the street or ditches. Water service to residences and businesses are not interrupted during the flushing program. Due to the scouring action of flushing out the water mains, residents of the area being flushed may experience some discoloration in their water at times; however most will not experience this. The discoloration is caused by sediments being flushed from the lines, and should clear up soon after flushing in the area is completed. Letting water run at the tap will help clear up the water in the service lines.
This flushing program will be conducted throughout the City system. Signs will be posted in the public right-of-way in the areas that are currently being flushed for the duration of work in that area. The signs are labeled "Water System Flushing in this Area" and also have a pocket attached to them with informational flyers concerning the water system flushing program.
If you have any questions regarding this process, or if your water continues to be slightly discolored after the completion of flushing in your area, please contact the City of Newberg Public Works Maintenance Department at 503-537-1234.
