Meet our new Community Development Director
City of Newberg welcomes Mr. Doug Rux as the City's new Community Development Director. He began work on February 23. Doug has more than 30 years of experience in local government agencies, focusing on planning, economic development and urban renewal. He attended Oregon State University and has a Master's Degree in Urban Planning.
His early planning experience began in Douglas and Lane County agencies, followed by a decade in planning (current and long range) at the City of Tualatin. In the mid-90's, he was promoted to Economic Development Manager followed by another promotion to Community Development Director, the position he held until 2010. During this time he supervised the Planning and Economic Development Divisions.
After leaving Tualatin Rux worked as a private consultant until hired by the City of Salem. He directed their real estate division and handled all economic development issues for Salem, which consisted of seven different urban renewal districts, as well as the airport, housing authority and a variety of federal programs. His working relationships with other leaders (private and public) in his field are well established, a tremendous benefit to Newberg. He has many years of supervisory experience which will be needed in the restructuring of the functions of the Community Development Department.
His background in Douglas, Lane, and Marion counties coupled with his experiences in the metro area give him a well-rounded palette from which to draw when establishing working relationships with Newberg community members and Yamhill County officials.
