In Memory of Councilor Denise Bacon
Official Statement from the City of Newberg on the Passing of Councilor Denise Bacon
October 25, 2022 | Press Release
(NEWBERG, OR) – Last Friday afternoon at 5:35pm after an incredibly brave battle with lung illness our own Councilor Denise Bacon passed away surrounded by those who loved her.
Denise was incredibly hard working and served on our council for 14 years. She was someone that city staff conferred with every few days on a wide range of decisions, acting as a pole star to guide our actions.
In her memory, we take with us the Hope that she had for all that our city is and needs to be. She never stopped dreaming about where Newberg is going and worked to make her ideas a reality. She earned the Trust of the people she led. Specifically, Denise was trusted to always do what she said she would do. Denise created Stability, and as we saw after the DCI fire, she was quick to act in a crisis but calm before the threat of panic. Great leaders are also empowered by Compassion. Denise always made us feel her presence with love and care for individual staff, city departments, and the wellbeing of the whole town. Her dream was of a united Newberg with all of us moving forward together toward the sort of future she imagined.
City staff ask you to send your thoughts and prayers to her family and respect her legacy by being kind to one another. The city will be following instructions from Denise’s family with respect to the next steps to celebrate her exceptional life. More details to be released soon.
