Interested in making an impact in your community? Volunteer to serve on a City of Newberg Board or Commission. We’re looking for high school and college students who live in Newberg to apply. Applications due June 1, 2021!

Positions are available on the following boards, committees, and commissions:

Affordable Housing Commission - Meets Quarterly
Interested in how housing is developed and how a local government can help ensure there are affordable options available for all?
Consider applying to the Affordable Housing Commission. The Affordable Housing Commission meets quarterly to provide recommendations to the Newberg City Council on how to best spend money out of the Newberg Affordable Housing Trust Fund (NAHFT). Money from the NAHTF is available to both organizations and individuals that provide affordable housing and/or related services within Newberg. The commission also prioritizes and advises on items that encourage affordable housing in Newberg.

Citizens’ Rate Review Committee - Meets 4-8 Times per Year Bi-Annually or By Need
Interested in how fees are developed at the City? Want a better understanding of the monthly municipal services bill?
The Citizens’ Rate Review Committee meets every two years to consider the rates for the City’s wastewater and water systems. They also decide the amount of the stormwater maintenance fee, and other fees and rates at the request of the Newberg City Council. 

Historic Preservation Commission - Meets Quarterly
Interested in learning about and preserving history in Newberg?
The Historic Preservation Commission identifies, recognizes, and preserves significant property that holds community history. They also encourage the rehabilitation and maintenance of historic buildings and strengthen public support for historic preservation efforts within the community. 

Library Advisory Board - Meets 3rd Thursday of Every Month at 7pm
Interested in literature, creating a community hub, and your local library? The Newberg Public Library is looking to add a student commissioner to the Library Advisory Board. The Library Advisory Board makes policy for the library and provides input on library operations. A motivated student looking to work with Library staff and other board members to help drive strategy would be an ideal member of this board. 

Planning Commission - Meets 2nd Thursday of Every Month at 7pm
Interested in how land gets developed? Want to learn more about zoning and planning? Apply to the Newberg Planning Commission to help make big decisions on land use matters in our community. From items like Urban Renewal, to Land Use Laws, to Urban Growth, you’ll learn how cities plan for the future and ensure the best for a community.
