Newberg Oregon is a fantastic place to live, work, and go to school. In no small part this is due to the people who live and work here, and the several commissions within the city which act as advocates for us all. One of these commissions is the Traffic Safety Commission (TSC), which is dedicated not only to keeping our streets and highways functioning safely, but also to addressing the concerns of residents and businesses who call this historic city home.
The TSC meets every second Monday of the month to address any concern brought by Newberg residents. With the power to request traffic data studies and make limited and general decisions, this commission was created to give residents a direct voice in city administration and act as an advocate in addressing all the traffic issues brought to it by the public. The commission, through the City Engineer’s office, also works with the Oregon Department of Transportation as well as Yamhill and Washington counties on a variety of issues. Newberg residents can attend public meetings, communicate with the commission via U.S. Postal Service, or by email and be certain that their issue will be discussed and addressed by the commission.
The volunteer commission is made up of 10 Newberg residents, including one non-voting student member. City engineers and other city staff, Newberg Chief of Police Brian Casey, and Mayor Bob Andrews attend each meeting. The purpose of this commission is solely to address the concerns of residents and to proactively advocate safe street planning and use. Elected officials, city employees, and commission volunteers all welcome the questions and concerns of the public.
Commission Meetings are open to the public and take place on the second Monday of the month at 7pm. in the Public Safety Building at 401 E Third Street. All residents and business owners are welcome to attend, and by filling out a simple form community members can bring their concerns to the attention of the city. The Newberg Traffic Safety Commission would like to encourage the public at large to take advantage of this civic resource and is dedicated to continuing to be an advocate for all the residents and businesses who choose to call Newberg home.
