If you are interested in doing a ride along please fill out the attached form and return  to the Police Department located at 401 E. Third St.  Office hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.  The Department will contact you to schedule your ride along.

YOU SHALL AT ALL TIMES ADHERE STRICTLY TO THE OFFICER’S DIRECTIONS.

  • Notice: By signing this form, you authorize the Newberg-Dundee Police Department to conduct a criminal history check, along with other routine inquiries, prior to allowing you to participate in the ride-along program.

This process may take several weeks.

  • A participant may ride a maximum of 16 hours or 4 ride alongs in a calendar year.
  • Riders agree that their participation in the ride-along program may be terminated at any time, for any reason, and the participant need not be informed of the reason for such termination.
  • No alcohol is to be consumed within eight hours previous to the ride-along. No person shall be allowed to ride who, in the officer’s opinion, is under the influence of intoxicants, prescription drugs, or is otherwise impaired.
  • You may not carry weapons during the ride-along, including but not limited to mace or chemical agents, knives of any size, tasers, or firearms. Prohibitions of weapons include persons authorized to carry concealed weapons by permit. (Exception: other law enforcement officers)
  • All riders shall wear appropriate attire. Clothing will be clean and neat. Essentially, any clothing that will project a professional image to the community may be worn. Female riders should wear shoes with low or no heels. Purses are permitted, but should be small, with essential items only. An exception can be made by shift supervisor, if necessary.
  • If, for any reason, the officer determines there to be a conflict of interest, jeopardy, or undo interference with his/her task, the officer may terminate the ride-along and return you to the police department.
  • Law enforcement is a career of confidentiality. With or without the consent of those involved, police officers enter people’s private lives. You are expected to maintain the confidentiality of all you see and hear during your ride-along.
  • Viewing information displayed on the mobile computer terminal (MCT) is strictly prohibited. Any information viewed or heard inadvertently on the activities of the police officer in the course of his/her duties must remain strictly confidential.
  • No photos, videotaping or audio recordings will be allowed. This also includes cell phones or other recording devices. Cell phones must be silenced and will not be used while in the patrol car or on the scene of a call.
