Patrol Division

The Patrol Division which provides 24 hour service and protection to the community is the most active, visible and important component of the police department.

The Newberg-Dundee Police has 19 patrol officers in a three month rotation covering day, afternoon and night shifts.  Two officers currently have K9 partners, one serving as a patrol dog, the other a drug dog.  This group is supervised by four uniform sergeants, also assigned to rotating shifts. Additionally, two officers are assigned to the Traffic Safety Team.

Patrol officers were involved in more than 28,710 calls for service in 2010, as well as 989 adult and 227 juvenile arrests or custodies.  More than 3,446 traffic citations and 3,690 warnings were issued.  Included in the total number are 148 arrests for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.

Officers are often seen in public responding to emergencies, performing traffic stops, handling calls for service, and making presentations to varying organizations.  Generally, calls considered as minor to serious felonies involving persons or property are initially answered by a patrol officer.  Most citizens identify a police department with the appearance of their marked patrol cars and the officer’s professional presentation.  A priority of the Department is to answer calls for service quickly, efficiently and professionally.
