Newberg Police Department Honor Guard Lined up in the park

The Newberg-Dundee Police Department Honor Guard has been active for over 25 years.  Starting as an informal group in the 1970's, the group served as a ceremonial rifle team for local Veterans of Foreign Wars functions, particularly the annual Memorial Day service at Memorial Park.

Since 2000, Honor Guard membership has developed into a dedicated group of seven volunteer officers.  The group recognizes the communities Veterans at selected functions, including Memorial day, and has expanded its annual engagements to the "Hearts of Gold," luncheon for the Providence Medical Group.

The Guard presented at the dedication of the new Providence Newberg Medical Center in June, 2006 and at individual police officer memorial services.  In addition, the group's vocalist sang the National Anthem at the Newberg Old Fashioned Festival's Coronation ceremony.  Since 2002, the Police Honor Guard has combined with the Newberg Fire Department Honor Guard for a memorial service each September 11th.

A significant addition this year was the purchase of two M-1 Garand rifles for use in ceremonies.
