Student Needed for Planning Commission

STUDENTS! Here's an opportunity to serve on the Newberg Planning Commission as a Student Planning Commissioner.  It's a great way to get experience with civic matters, city government, decision making and public process, and it looks really good on a resume too!

Requirements: The student must be a current high school student at one of Newberg's high schools and able to serve a one-year term.  The Student Planning Commissioner participates in the hearings, workshop, and deliberations of the Commission but is a non-voting member.

The Planning Commission hears requests for annexations, comprehensive plan changes, zone changes, conditional use permits, appeals, and other land use applications. Its duties are to hold hearings, make findings, and typically present its recommendation to the Newberg City Council. For some types of applications the Planning Commission makes the final decision.

The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month. Additional meetings are occasionally required.

If you would like to participate as a Student Planning Commissioner, please stop by the Planning and Building Office at 414 E. First Street, or call Jessica at 503-537-1240.  You can find an application by clicking  here. This position is open until filled.

The Mayor of Newberg appoints Planning Commission members with the consent of the City Council. Applicants will be notified of the date the City Council will consider the appointment so that they can attend that meeting.
