Electronic Sign Ad Hoc Committee

The Electronic Sign Ad Hoc Committee was established by the City Council to identify and recommend appropriate changes to the animated sign code to balance community and business needs. The committee has reviewed sign codes from several different cities, had discussions with sign industry representatives and the Police Chief, watched videos of many electronic signs, and visited a site to learn about operating an electronic sign.

The committee adopted a final recommendation for electronic signs based on size, location, and display method. The City Council initiated a development code amendment at their July 6, 2010 meeting to start the formal public hearing process to consider the proposed code changes. The Planning Commission held a hearing on August 12 and recommended that the City Council adopt the proposed code amendment, with one minor change. The item will now move on to the City Council for a public hearing, and is tentatively scheduled for October 4, 2010.
