Energy:

  • LED: Starting with the Water, and Wastewater plants in 2008 and in 2019 a large conversion at the Library and Maintenance Shops.  The City is actively converting our properties to LED fixtures.  The Energy Trust of Oregon has reimbursed the City for 50% of these upgrades added to the Energy savings of LED this has offset the total conversion costs to less than 12 months per building.
  • Old pavement from road replacement projects is being repurposed. The City takes the "pavement grindings" and applies it on city properties instead of purchasing new gravel.  This reduces travel delays for contractors, reduces fuel and emissions for trucks that normally take the used pavement to Hillsboro. Reusing grindings saved the City $20,000 in 2019.
  • The high-efficiency Onix dryer system installed for the Newgrow composting system saves money and reduces fuel costs.
  • Solar school speed zone and crossing lights are installed.  Grants are currently being pursued to install solar energy panels for the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Fleet Division continues to purchase fuel efficient vehicles for staff making the vehical pool more diverse and saving utility trucks for staff that need that functionality daily.
  • We Recycle In city buildings batteries, aluminum cans, and paper.
  • NewGrow Compost saves thousands $$ in bio-solid disposal and regulatory fees. Available all year. Click HERE for more Info.
  • The FREE Medication Drop box is anonymous and easy to use. Pet medications and over the counter items are accepted. DO NOT FLUSH MEDICATIONS!

Storm Water - Protecting the Rain:
