Your Water Meter and how it is read
City of Newberg water meters are now 100% radio read.
What used to take the entire Public Works Maintenance staff 3 days to do, using pencils, paper, and rags to wipe the mud off of the water meter, can now be done by one person using a mobile unit mounted in a truck.
This upgrade and conversion saves hundreds of man-hours each year and saves thousands of dollars in costs.
About Radio Read
An MXU (radio) is part of your water meter box and is activated by a hand held device or a vehicle-mounted unit. City employees drive past a property, send out a radio signal to the MXU, and receive back your meter use information directly to the computer in the vehicle. This enables the employee to read meters accurately and efficiently.
Water meters, meter boxes, and remote sensing equipment must be accessible and free of debris or obstructions to ensure timely meter readings. It is the responsibility of the property owner to keep meter equipment free from any obstruction or impediment.
Once the meter reading is collected the data is uploaded to the Finance Dept. Billing Office where it is calculated and added to each customer's Municipal Services Statement.
The Billing and collection of fees are all handled by the: Utility Billing Office at City Hall (503) 537-1205 OPTION [1]
