Test Proctoring

Exam proctoring is available at the Newberg Public Library. Please read the following proctoring exam policy. For specific information contact the Reference Librarian.

Proctoring General Procedures

  • The proctor will be the reference librarian on duty at time of exam (not necessarily the librarian to whom the examination was directed). The test will be taken at a library computer or desk in the library. The librarian will not be able to observe the student at all times. If this is not acceptable, the student and institution should make arrangements for other proctoring options. Certain fees apply for printing, copying, and/or faxing. Refer to the Proctoring Fees section below for detailed information. If a contact is needed, use the name and contact information of the Library Director.
  • Arrangements should be made with a library staff member at least one week in advance. Examinations must be taken during library operating hours.
  • All test taking requirements and instructions must be received from the issuing educational institution before any tests are taken. Students must present photo identification to the proctor at test time.
  • Due to email filters or to the faltering of the fax machine, the Library prefers that examination materials be mailed. If the exam must be emailed or faxed to the Library, advance notice must be given to the reference librarian. Charges apply for prints made from emailed or faxed exams.
  • Completed examinations will be returned to the testing institution only via U.S. Postal Service or, if timeliness is required, the Library may fax the exam for a charge (refer to the Proctoring Fees section below). Copies of completed exams are not retained.
  • Examinations not completed by the student within 30 days of receipt by the library will not be retained unless the student has made prior arrangements.

Online Examinations

  • A special Reference Computer Station is assigned for online examinations. This computer station is equipped with Internet access and basic Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • The Library does not allow the installation of any special software that may be needed to complete the examination on a library computer. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that the library's computing resources are adequate for their test taking requirements.
  • With regard to the required proctor information for some online tests, the reference librarian will provide the necessary library & proctor information excluding personal information such as social security number or driver’s license number.

Proctoring Fees

  • If the Library receives the exams via email or fax, there is a charge of $.10 per page.
  • If completed examinations and materials need to be mailed by the Library, a fee of $2.00 will be charged to the student unless a self addressed stamped envelope is provided. Additional postage charges may apply as well.
  • If completed examinations and accompanying materials need to be faxed by the Library, the student will be charged $2.00 plus $.10 per page faxed.
