The Children's Library is too small and with your help, we can make it grow.
When the remodeled library opened in 1985, there were 23,000 books in the entire library. Today there are 23,000 books in the Children's Library alone!
Last year Newberg Library programs for youth in the Chehalem Valley served over 20,000 kids. Additionally, the number of items checked out has grown 214%, while the population of Newberg is up 95%.
An architect has been hired in Summer, 2011 to develop plans to expand the Children's Library with a focus on the three items below.
- Enlarge Children's Library 40% by opening up existing unfinished space
- Add a family restroom
- Make minor changes to the Austin Meeting Room to accomodate Children's programs
Previously, plans were larger to make major renovations to the Austin Meeting Room and install sound barriers in the upper lobby. Due to limitations with the current economic situation, the project has been scaled back to just the expansion of the children's room and minor changes to the Austin Meeting Room to accomodate children's programs.
You can Help
To make these plans a reality we need to raise over $250,000. Your gift or pledge will bring this dream to the children and families of our area. The Library Foundation of Newberg has established a special account to receive donations and gifts for this project. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 tax deductible organization.
