Volunteer Firefighter

Newberg Fire Department (NFD) is a combination of paid and volunteer firefighter supporting each other.  NFD has always produced a strong corp of volunteers and are proud to say that the tradition will continue for many years to come if we continue to recruit and produce individuals who are willing to sacrifice their time to provide the neccessary service to this community.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter with NFD, please call 503-537-1230, and request an application.  NFD accepts applications for two volunteer recruit classes a year, February and August.

Minimum requirements:
* Must be 18 years of age and out of High School
* Must possess a valid  Drivers License (Preferably Oregon issued)
* Must successfully pass a criminal and DMV background check
* Must pass a medical examination and physical fitness test
* Must reside within the city of Newberg and/or the Newberg Rural Fire Protection District

The department currently trains as a group on Monday nights from 7 - 9 PM. 

In a brand new firefighters first year with the department it is expected that they complete the Yamhill County Recruit Academy (8 weekends over 3 months)  and NFD training (additional training consisting of various weekdays and weekends).  Preference and consideration given to those with previous firefighting experience to be discussed with the department training officer.  Probationary period usually lasts at least a year.
