
Newberg Fire Department (NFD) offers two types of CPR classes:
HeartSaver First Aid with CPR and AED
This is the only “First Aid” class NFD offers. It includes adult/child/infant CPR and use of the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). This class is generally designed for any layperson that wishes to learn CPR or whose employer requires a First Aid card. This may include babysitters, day care providers, teachers, lifeguards, hunting guides or anyone dealing with the public on a regular basis. Course curriculum includes the role of the first aid provider, controlling bleeding, managing shock, recognizing strokes, trauma care, choking, and warning signs of serious illness.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider
This class is designed for those people who are in the health care industry and/or find themselves providing care to someone else. Examples of people who may need this class are, nurses, nursing aids, physical therapists, EMT’s and in home health care givers. Course curriculum includes CPR, AED, BVM, and O2 administration at the health care provider level.
• Classes are conducted on an as-needed basis on the 4th Saturday of each month, rotating between First Aid and BLS Health Care Provider.
• Classes start at 9am and last approximately five hours depending on the number of students and type of class.
• Classes are typically held at the Springbrook Fire Station 3100 Middlebrook Drive in Newberg (locations, dates and times may vary).
All of the above classes cost $35. per person and include a two year course completion card.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
This class is for the health care professional at the paramedic, nurse or physician level. We hold these classes every April and November. Cost is $100 for a two year card.
