    • Project Description

    • The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the City of Newberg are partnering with each other to install a marked pedestrian crossing on the west side of Highway 219 at Everest Road.  The safety project includes pedestrian activated flashing beacons and new illumination at the intersection that is frequented by pedestrians.

In January 2012, ODOT’s contractor, PCR, Inc., has substantially completed the hand activated beacons at the crosswalk and they are fully functional at this time.  The pavement along the new curb, however, still requires rework.   The City is also working with PGE to relocate a light pole at the southwest corner of the intersection.  Moving the pole will improve the view of the flashing beacons by the eastbound drivers on the highway.

For more information on this project, please contact Paul Chiu, PE, Senior Engineer at 503.554.1751 or via email at paul.chiu@newbergoregon.gov.
