    • Project Description

    • The City of Newberg receives Transportation Enhancement (TE) funding from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to install sidewalks on the west side of Highway 219 (also known as N. College Street) and bike lanes in each direction from Illinois Street to Aldercrest Drive.  The total project funding is at about $975,000 which includes the required match from the City to meet the growing number of pedestrians and bicyclists in Newberg.  The railroad crossing pads on the south end of the project have been installed by Portland and Western Railroad, Inc. since November 2011.

The consultant OTAK, Inc. will lead the engineering design and environmental permitting.  Drainage and water quality improvements will be part of the associated improvements.  The consultant will perform surveying and environmental field work, typically between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday from April to August 2012.  The majority of the work takes place within the existing N. College Street right-of-way.  The information gathered will be used to design the roadway and to assess potential impacts to properties along N. College Street.  The design will determine whether sections of private property will need to be purchased to complete the proposed improvements.  ODOT will be discussing any needed right-of-way acquisition with the affected property owners later this year.

The City is looking forward to working with property owners, ODOT and the consultant to make Newberg a more livable community.  For more information on this project, please contact Paul Chiu, PE, Senior Engineer at 503.554.1751 or via email at paul.chiu@newbergoregon.gov.
