Do I Need a Building Permit?

A building permit is required for structures over 200 square feet and 10 feet in height.

Sheds or Assessory Structures - A building permit is not required for a shed under 200 square feet and 10 feet in height that meets lot coverage and setbacks.  The structure still must meet building code and development code standards.  In most cases this means the shed or accessory building has to be at least 5 feet from a side property line and 15 feet from a front property line.  See the Zoning Matrix for information on setbacks and lot coverage requirements.  In addition, they cannot be placed in easements or stream corridors.
