Discussion Continues on Fire District Annexation Proposal
What we learned from the City Council Special Study Session
March 31, 2017 - The Newberg City Council held a Special Study Session on March 27, 2017 to gather information about the possible Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) fire district annexation process and the cost of fire and emergency medical services (EMS). With the concerns of Newberg citizens in mind, the City Council raised questions that would guide them in their decision making process.
At this session, no decisions were made. In summary, this is what we learned:
- That there is a need to have more conversations with the residents of Newberg.
- The City Council is very sensitive to the concerns of Newberg citizens on how the Fire District Annexation will affect property taxes and service delivery.
- TVF&R intends on sponsoring community forums to hear the residents’ opinions and concerns.
The presentations by TVF&R, the City’s Finance Director and City Manager provided information regarding Newberg’s previous and current level of fire and EMS service, options for an open and public process, and property tax levy analysis. To listen or watch the entire meeting, refer to the links provided below. The City Council plans to have another meeting regarding this matter later in April.
